Η 6η Γιορτή Παραμυθιών είναι αφιερωμένη στον Βασίλη Στεργίου που αγάπησε με πάθος το Ντιτζεριντού, το παλαιότερο πνευστό μουσικό όργανο στον κόσμο. Ο ήχος του, έλεγε, είναι μία καταπληκτική -γήινη - εμπειρία με άπειρες μαγευτικές και παραμυθένιες προεκτάσεις.

The "Folktale Festival" will be held on the island of Kea (Tzia) from July 12 to 20, 2008, for the sixth consecutive year. It offers Greek and international artists the opportunity to present their work against the backdrop of locations of natural beauty and historical significance - beaches, springs, mines, trails, churches, squares, and more.
During the festival, the island fills with colors, sounds, and memories from bygone eras and distant places. Through the narration of stories, myths, folktales, legends, and traditions, the audience has the chance to wander and journey. The festival aims to highlight cultural heritage and tradition, emphasizing their multifaceted and timeless nature. Different art forms meet, converse, and express themselves...
The program includes folktale narrations, musical and visual performances, painting exhibitions, puppet theater and shadow theater, workshops for children and adults (crafts, pottery, storytelling, and the art of speech), lectures, book presentations, and traditional games. All events revolve around the festival's annual theme, which this year is: "Dragons and Serpents."
The festival poster was created by painter Alekos Fassianos (attached). The program includes over 30 events, and admission is free.
This year's honorary guest is French storyteller Bruno de La Salle, a pioneer since the 1960s in reviving the art of storytelling in Europe and founder of the Centre de Littérature Orale (CLiO) in France .

"The... Recyclable Hydra"
From a monster of Greek mythology, the Lernaean Hydra transforms into a little Kean creature that cares for the environment.
The Friends of Kea Association will place an aluminum construction representing the Lernaean Hydra next to the Korissia playground. Four of its seven heads will "devour" recyclable materials. Glass, paper, plastic, and aluminum soda cans will be its food.

On the unveiling night, journalist and author Yiannis Spandonis will narrate the story of Hercules and the Lernaean Hydra, a Greek myth rich in symbolism.

The 6th Festival of Tales is dedicated to Vasilis Stergiou, who passionately loved the Didgeridoo, the oldest wind musical instrument in the world. He said its sound is an amazing — earthy — experience with infinite magical and fairy-like dimensions.
WORKSHOP PROGRAM
The Center for the Study and Dissemination of Myths and Tales announces the organization of three workshops taking place within the framework of the 6th Festival of Tales in Kea (July 12–20, 2008).
Katerina Vlachou, Professor of Oral Art, Bruno de La Salle, French storyteller and pioneer in the revival of the art of storytelling in Europe since 1969, founder of the Oral Literature Center “CLIO” in France in 1981, and Social Anthropologist Anna Aggelopoulou along with storyteller Lili Lambrelli, will be the instructors.
Workshop A
Title: “The Art of Oral Speech: Storytelling”
Instructor: Katerina Vlachou
Subject: Words have their own “speech,” their own reality and life, related to the sounds of speech as the smallest unit in artistic speech. These sounds—consonants and vowels—are our “musical” material.
By consciously focusing and truly listening to how language sounds are produced, the sounds reveal themselves and begin to “exist.” We can then hear the breathing movements within the different sounds and observe how much they differ from each other.
In the workshop, we will work with rhythm, speech dynamics, and flow in storytelling through special breathing and sound-shaping exercises, discovering the imaginative power of oral speech.
No prior experience is required.

Workshop B
Title: “The Art of Storytelling”
Instructor: Bruno de La Salle
Subject: Participants will have the opportunity through experiential learning to practice the art of storytelling and learn different techniques.
Participants will try exercises highlighting orality traits and will have the chance to tell stories.
It is necessary for participants to know at least one story they wish to work on during the workshop.
Bruno de La Salle, with years of experience working with the Epic, having performed the Odyssey himself and participated in the Festival d’Avignon, emphasizes the rhythm of oral speech. In 1991, he founded Atelier Fahrenheit 451, aimed at training new storytellers.
Those who wish to attend without active storytelling participation can register as listeners.
